Youth-led nonprofit

Every month, a different diagnosis. Every story, a person behind it.

Strands of Life is run by students who believe health awareness works best when it sounds like a person, not a pamphlet. Each month we choose one medical issue and publish the stories of people living with it.

Free to read, free to share. Every story is published with the storyteller's permission.

What we do

Awareness that people actually finish reading.

Statistics tell you a condition exists. A story tells you what it costs, what helped, and what you would want a friend to know. We build the second kind of awareness.

A monthly campaign

Every month centers on one medical issue, chosen to line up with the national awareness calendar so our work adds to a conversation already happening.

First-person stories

Patients, survivors, siblings, and caregivers tell it in their own words. We help with editing and never rewrite someone's experience into something it wasn't.

Somewhere to go next

Every campaign ends with vetted resources: screening guidance, patient organizations, and support lines, so awareness turns into a next step.

“Health awareness works best when it sounds like a person, not a pamphlet.”

How a month comes together

Four weeks, one issue, many voices

Our volunteers work in small teams: outreach, writing, design, and social. Anyone can join any team, and nobody needs prior experience.

Volunteer with us

Choose the focus

We match the month to the national awareness calendar and research the condition with reliable sources.

Invite the storytellers

We reach out through patient communities, clinics, and our own families, and we always ask before we publish.

Write, edit, design

Student editors work with each storyteller until the piece reads the way they meant it. They approve the final draft.

Publish and amplify

Stories go live here and across social, paired with facts and the organizations that can actually help.
